Centro d’Ompio was founded 1987 with the goal to provide a space in which people can grow and free hidden energies. 

The place is situated on a sunny terrace in northern Italy, with a generous and spacious park, gardens and gorgeous chestnut trees. The noticeable energy of nature and the mild climate provide an ideal environment for people, who want to open themselves to meditation, personal growth and spiritual experience. 

Centro d’Ompio provides its services throughout the year to groups, families and individuals. It is run by an international team.

Accomodations and Meeting Rooms

The main building with the nearby „poolhouse“ accommodates 53 people: 

• 9 two-bed rooms (8 with private shower/bathroom) 
• 2 three-bed rooms with private shower/bathroom
• 2 four-bed rooms (1 with private shower/bathroom) 
• 2 seven-bed rooms
• 4 attic rooms with 1-2 beds

• Pavillon: A free standing octagonal wooden building with a diameter of 14 m, a height of 7 m and 150 m² floor space, allows for flexible usage. The floorheating provides comfort. The southern vegetation in front of the large windows creates a unique atmosphere.  (room plan)
• Meditation room: Bright room with a surface area of 55 m², located within the main building. 
• Round tent: A large circular tent is available for use in the summer with a diameter of 9 m, 65 m² and sidewalls which can be left open or closed. 
• Dome tent: The dome tent shaped as a semisphere con be used in summer as well. It has a wooden floor, 10,5 m diameter, 86 m². 
• Outdoor spaces and open sky: There are various locations on the Centro grounds (meadows, terraces, woodlands, fireplaces) which are well suited for activites under the open sky.
• Casa Felicina: independently situated lodging and meeting house, see below. 

The meeting rooms are equipped with hifi-systems, Airex-mats, meditation pillows, meditation stools and blankets. Other needed seminar materials such as flip chart, overhead projectors, 14 massage tables and piano are available upon request. Additional equipment can be rented with advance notice. 

This former farmhouse is secluded and yet close to all other facilities and services. It is surrounded by woods, meadows and fruit trees. 
„Casa Felicina“ can be rented independently or used as an annex for larger groups in the Centro main buildings.

Centro d’Ompio is located in northern Italy in impressive nature. It lies just beneath the peak of Monte Crabbia on a sunny terrace in the village of Pettenasco, overlooking Lago d’Orta, 70 km from the Swiss border and west of Lago Maggiore.

Excursions

• The little town of Orta gives its name to the lake. It is free of motor traffic. Its central square, Piazza Motta, opens onto the lake and is inviting to stay in one of the many coffee shops, with the view on the island San Giulio with its monastery. Another monastery with 22 chappels atop Monte Sacro above Salotto d’Orta. It is dedicated to the St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of Italy. 
• Natural Park Alpe Devero and Alpe Veglia: A hike at the feet of 3000 m high mountains is in one hours distance from Centro d'Ompio. From Alpe Devero - a high plain with lots of little lakes - the trail leads via Lago Nero to Alpe Buscagna. After wild, rocky passages and a crossing of Rio delle Frua the trail follows through light forest, alpine flowers and blueberry bushes to the incredibly pituresque Alpe Veglia.
• Mottarone (1491 msl) is the highest peak of the surroundings and can be reached by car within half an hour. The panorama comprises the whole arch of the alps (from Mont Blanc to Jungfrau and Rheinwaldhorn). Below lies the winding Lago Maggiore. Mottarone allows for friendly family skiing in winter.
• The waterfalls of Alpe Selviana are the aim of a 90 minute hike from Centro d’Ompio. They are located at the river „Pescone“ between rock pools, which have been washed out through thousands of years. They attract enthusiasts of water, romantics and people who want to relax. Ten minutes away, „Aldo“ invites in his Cooperativa „Il Glicine“ to eat „Merenda“: Plate with different kinds of cheese, vinagre vegetables, blueberry nectar or honey-grappa; everything locally and biologically grown.

Centro d’Ompio covers an area of 100’000 square meters with gardens, terraces, chestnut forest, meadows, all connected with walking trails, which lead by creeks, springs and a pond. There is a gorgeous view to Lago d’Orta and mountains of the Monte Rosa range thanks, to the elevated location. 

Our kitchen offers italian-vegetarian food (including eggs and dairy products). Our chefs are happy to fullfill special requests of our groups. We base as much as possible on biologically grown crop.

Centro d’Ompio offers its services to groups and workshop leaders. Please check events. 

Centro is an ideal location for holidays. The climate in fall, winter and spring is southern mild and comfortably warm thanks to the lake in summer.Its park and excursions into the surroundings allow recreation of body, soul and spirit. Rental of cars as well as participation in open events are possible. 

Working in a retreat place is challenging and satisfactory as well. There are often open jobs for team members. 

“Working Guest” Program

This special program allows you to experience the Centro d'Ompio as a living and work environment.

We offer “Working Guests” cost-free limited stays of 4 to 6 weeks. For 30 hours of work per week over five days “Working Guests” receive room and board plus free participation in those of our programs you may wish to join. Work is of the following variety: kitchen help, washing up, housecleaning, gardening, or office work. Furthermore there is the possibility of project oriented collaboration. We would be glad if you would like to bring your experience and/or professional know-how (also in artistic areas) to the Centro d'Ompio.

The actual “gift” is the day to day living with its intendant values. These are of great importance to us: communal living and working with attentiveness and joy, taking personal responsibility, and development of consciousness in an atmosphere of sustainability. In daily practice these values are expressed in Sharings, Meditiation, Qi Gong and Yoga, communal singing and dancing, sweat lodges and many more activities.
